Navid Dehghan is an Iranian American artist based in Sacramento, California. His work is a reflection of his experiences growing up immersed in American pop culture combined with his desire to explore his heritage through his interest in middle eastern art and culture. He creates characters that combine these elements to make hybrids of both worlds. His use of food in his work is a way to connect with people and understand his surroundings and different cultures. The cheeseburger and other fast food imagery have become metaphors for the American experience in his work.

 

He explores the idea of the facade of the American dream versus the reality of living in America. Using nostalgic references from his childhood he reminds the viewer of a simpler time when we felt more connected to each other and the lines between imagination and reality were blurred. Working with universal themes in his art such as pop culture, music and food he attempts to remind us of what we have in common and how we are all connected. His goal as an artist is to take the viewer back to a childlike state and to remind them of when life was simple.
